Rousch's Dairy
Rousch's Diary was located at 412 East Second Street in downtown Madison. In the background is St. Mary's Catholic Church located on Second Street. Although many in this photo are unknown George Rousch is pictured in the front by the horse, Dottie Rickets was the bookkeeper. (Additional photos appear in our photo gallery.) Hillside Inn Fire

Fire Destroys Hillside Hotel; One Dead; 33 Others Are Safe
This city's famous Hillside Motor Hotel was destroyed today by a torrent of flame that claimed the life on one hotel guest and injured a dozen others. Thirty-three hotel guests escaped the inferno into 17-degree night air, many of them clad in night clothing or underwear.

Fleeing Guests Greet Firemen
Madison firemen raced to the Hillside Hotel this morning to be greeted by a very frightening sight.

Hotel guests were crawling and climbing from windows in frantic attempts to escape the fire that was spreading so rapidly through the building.

Memories

Rousch's Dairy
George and Estalla Rousch owned Rousch's Dairy for about 10 years, from the early 1940's to early 1950's. It was located at 412 East Second Street where Boonie's Mountain Valley spring Water is today.

Grandfather and 1912 Cincinnati Reds
John Collins (Derby hat), driver and father of Stella Collins Hertz, grandfather of Joseph John Hertz drove the Cincinnati Reds during their visit to Madison October 7th, 1912.
